Regional Informational Workshops

On a monthly basis, LATMAP hosts short informational sessions that cover the basics of homeownership and offer an explanation of the various special teacher programs available. CFRC along with LATMAP partners are on hand to provide specialized information regarding loan products and subsidy programs. These workshops are held at district and UTLA facilities at times and locations convenient to teachers.

Homebuyer Education

LATMAP offers a comprehensive pre and post-purchase homebuyer education workshops. The workshops are facilitated by NeighborWorks certified instructors and are held on Saturdays, twice a month, in both Spanish and English. They are provided in collaboration with LATMAP partnered realtors and lenders. The cost to attend the workshop is $40 per person and $60 per couple.

Financial and Debt Management Counseling

In partnership with the Los Angeles Consumer Credit Counseling Service, LATMAP participants will have access to meet with CCCS counselors to review, repair, and improve their credit and learn to mange their debt more wisely.

Pre-Qualification Interviews

Prospective homebuyers have the opportunity to participate in confidential, one-on-one interviews with a homebuyer counselor after completing the homeownership education workshop. The goal of this interview is to help the school employee determine his or her readiness for homeownership. The interview includes an evaluation of the school employee’s income, debts, and credit history, including an optional review of their credit report obtained for the teacher at a nominal cost. At the end of the interview, the school employee will have a good idea of where he or she stands and be presented with an “action plan” to proceed with in order to achieve homeownership as soon as reasonably possible. While LATMAP will provide information and advice, it will never discourage a school employee from applying for a mortgage. The timing of this decision will always be left with the school employee. There is no cost to the school employee for this service if he or she attends the Homebuyer Education Workshop.

Access to Loan Officers

Participating lenders will coordinate with CFRC to provide on-site access to loan officers at times convenient to LAUSD teachers and employees and/or make available appointments specifically for LATMAP participants.

Information About Homes For Sale

Teachers and other qualified school district personnel will be linked with LATMAP-approved Real Estate Brokers who will help them obtain information about affordable homes for sale in Los Angeles and surrounding communities. LATMAP will use established information and resource networks provided by local real estate brokers as well as information about properties offered for sale by HUD, and HUD partner programs. Additionally, LATMAP will work closely with developers who are building and rehabilitating new homes for sale in Los Angeles.
