About Us
Purpose of Initiative
Recruiting and retaining quality teachers is the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Unified School Districts (LAUSD) education reform plan to improve student performance. Many national, state, and local policy makers concluded that providing access to affordable homeownership opportunities is an effective teacher recruitment and retention strategy. As a result, numerous public and private teacher homeownership assistance initiatives have been or will soon be implemented. The LAUSD along with the United Teachers of Los Angeles and various public and private sector partners want to continue to ensure that existing and prospective teachers in Los Angeles have the maximum possible access to homeownership assistance programs. As a result, LATMAP, a unique public-private partnership, was established to provide a one-stop shop for LAUSD teachers and other qualified personnel.
LATMAP began operations on July 26, 2000 and offers the following services:
- Access to pre-and post-purchase home buyer education and counseling;
- Pre-qualification interview;
- Financial and debt management counseling;
- On-site access to loan officers;
- Access and information about mortgage products designed for teachers and other qualified school district personnel;
- Information about affordable homes for sale in Los Angeles and surrounding communities; and
- Access to home buyer assistance resources offered by public and private agencies.
